Overview

Full-System
Engineering

Most engineering failures happen at the intersection of disciplines — where mechanical design meets electrical reality and nobody owns the interface. Clay Lilac engineers the complete system, treating mechanical structure, electrical hardware, motion control, and software interfaces as a single integrated design problem.

From a single actuated mechanism to a full robotic cell, we deliver production-ready documentation that your manufacturing, supply chain, and service teams can act on immediately — without interpretation or rework cycles.

Working directly inside your SolidWorks PDM or ENOVIA vault, every revision is tracked, every change documented, and your team always has the latest geometry.

Based in Newmarket, Ontario, we provide electro-mechanical integration services to manufacturers and product companies throughout the Greater Toronto Area — including Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Vaughan, Brampton, Richmond Hill, Aurora, and Newmarket — as well as clients across Canada and the United States, all delivered remotely with the same responsiveness as an in-house design team.

01
Product Development
Mechanical Design & Product Engineering

Concept development, detailed design, assemblies, sheet metal, machined components, weldments, plastics, and production-ready documentation using SolidWorks and CATIA V5. Every deliverable built to go straight to manufacture.

02
Electro-Mechanical Systems
Electro-Mechanical Integration

Integration of motors, actuators, sensors, electrical hardware, wiring systems, control enclosures, and mechanical assemblies into complete operational systems. Designed for assembly, service, and real-world operating environments.

03
Robotics & Automation
Robotics & Automation Systems

Design and integration of robotic cells, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), automated workstations, conveyor systems, assembly equipment, and manufacturing automation. From concept layout to validated, production-ready designs.

04
Motion Control
Motion Control & Drive Integration

Servo motors, stepper motors, gearboxes, linear actuators, belt drives, ball screw systems, and precision motion mechanisms designed for industrial applications. Mechanism sizing, load analysis, and life calculations included.

05
Manufacturing Engineering
Manufacturing Engineering & NPI

DFM, DFA, prototype development, production transfer, supplier collaboration, cost reduction, and New Product Introduction (NPI). We bridge the gap between design intent and manufacturing reality — on time, on budget.

06
Reverse Engineering
Reverse Engineering & Legacy Equipment

CAD reconstruction from existing parts, field measurements, and obsolete component data. Machine upgrades, manufacturing modernisation, and redesign of legacy equipment for current production methods — fully parametric deliverables.

Our Process

How a Project Runs

A structured sequence that eliminates ambiguity and delivers production-ready systems fast.

01 /
Brief & System Architecture

We capture your functional requirements, operating environment, interface constraints, and manufacturing capabilities before any modelling begins. PDM structure and drawing templates confirmed at this stage.

02 /
Concept & Feasibility

Early-stage models developed quickly to validate the design direction before committing to detailed engineering. Concept geometry checked into PDM immediately — your team reviews in real time.

03 /
Detailed Design & DFM

Full parametric assemblies, component models, and DFM review. Mechanism analysis, tolerance stack-up, thermal verification, and serviceability checks completed before drawing issue.

04 /
Documentation & Handoff

Complete drawing package on your templates, BOM, STEP files, and any supply chain formats required — all released through your PDM as a single, traceable package. NPI support available through to production launch.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with Clay Lilac on electro-mechanical projects.

Yes. Clay Lilac Innovations is based in Newmarket, Ontario and provides electro-mechanical integration services to manufacturers and product companies across the Greater Toronto Area — including Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Vaughan, Brampton, Richmond Hill, Aurora, and Newmarket — as well as clients across Canada and the United States. All work is delivered remotely with the same responsiveness and PDM/PLM integration as an in-house designer.
We work in SolidWorks and CATIA V5, delivering native files directly into your SolidWorks PDM or ENOVIA vault. All drawings are produced on your company templates — your title block, your revision table, your standards. What leaves Clay Lilac looks like it came from your own team.
Yes. We cover the complete product development cycle from concept and detailed design through to production-ready documentation, DFM review, and NPI support. Whether you need concept validation, a full engineering package, or help taking an existing design into production, we can engage at any stage.
Yes, always. An NDA can be executed before any brief, drawing, or technical information is shared. On project completion, full IP transfers to you — all models, drawings, and documentation. No residual rights retained by Clay Lilac.
We reconstruct parametric CAD models from physical parts, field measurements, obsolete component data, and photographs. Deliverables include fully parametric SolidWorks or CATIA V5 models, production drawings, and BOM — ready for modern production methods or redesign. Legacy machine upgrades and manufacturing modernisation are a core part of our practice.
Two options: Stage completion billing ties payments to defined deliverable milestones — you pay when agreed outputs are delivered. Biweekly billing suits longer-running engagements with rolling scope. The structure is agreed in writing before work begins. No surprises.
Yes. Projects can be ended at any point with prior notice as agreed in the project contract. No lock-in, no penalties. All work completed to the exit point is delivered to you in full. We earn continued engagement through quality of work, not contractual obligation.
We serve machine manufacturing, medical device manufacturing, energy industry, kiosk and self-service terminal design, electrical enclosure manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, and tool and machine manufacturing. Our engineering practice is built around the demands of these verticals — each with its own tolerances, standards, and regulatory environment.
We respond to all project briefs within 48 hours with a scoping response. For projects with defined requirements, we can typically begin within one week of contract execution. Urgent engagements are accommodated where capacity allows — contact us to discuss your timeline.
